Spanish

"It is good because if I went on holiday to Spain I would know how to talk to people."

At Market Harborough Church of England Academy, pupils from Years 3-6 will learn to speak Spanish. We build children’s confidence to say, read and write words, phrases and sentences, to ask and answer questions and give opinions. Lessons incorporate a mix of phonics, vocabulary and grammar. are reflective, encouraging children to draw on their previous language experience and skills to embed new learning. Teaching will provide a balance of spoken and written language and will lay the foundations for further foreign language teaching as the children move on to secondary school.

Our Spanish curriculum will enable pupils to understand and communicate ideas, facts and feelings in speech and writing, focused on familiar and everyday vocabulary, as well as understanding letter sounds and pronunciation within the language. Children will learn through games, songs, stories, puppets and role play. The focus of study will be on practical communication, enabling the children to hold a simple conversation with a native speaker. We cover a wide range of topics including numbers, colours, greetings, family and clothing to name just a few.

As a community of learners, we embark on a journey together to learn a new language. We foster a curiosity and enthusiasm for language learning and the opportunity to develop an understanding of other countries and cultures.
